Energy One’s UK team has donated 9kg of lollipops to the cancer centre at Solihull Hospital, to help chemotherapy patients.
Energy One, based at Radcliffe House in central Solihull, is supporting the University Hospitals Birmingham (UHB) Charity to raise funds for a refurbishment of the Children’s Outpatients department at Solihull Hospital, in addition to offering support to the charity’s other appeals.
The energy trading software company came to learn that UHB Charity uses some of the funds it raises to buy lollipops for patients undergoing chemotherapy, to help take away a metallic taste that some patients experience when receiving their treatment.
As a neighbour of Solihull Hospital, Energy One decided that a donation of lollipops to the cancer centre would be a positive way to help UHB Charity, which is the official charity of University Hospitals Birmingham.
UHB Charity is an umbrella charity made up of the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham Charity, Heartlands Hospital Charity, Good Hope Hospital Charity and Solihull Hospital Charity. It works across its sites to support patients, families and staff by providing ‘added extras’ that are over and above those provided by the NHS.
Energy One UK recently delivered the lollipops to UHB Charity Fundraising Manager Samantha Howell (pictured with European CEO Simon Wheeler). The company hopes that the donation will help to significantly boost the centre’s supplies of sweet treats for its patients.

“We are planning a series of activities throughout the year, from tea parties and staff contests, to donations and sporting challenges, so we’re really keen to do our bit for patients, families and staff in any way we can. We hope the patients find comfort in the lollipops during their treatment.”
