Simon Wheeler, CEO of Energy One Europe, enjoyed Commodities People’s ETW recently, he told me saying “It was really good with a lot of Europeans travelling to the UK to attend.” He described the sessions as informative, and he enjoyed meeting up with everyone, including his competitors, he said. Meanwhile, Energy One Europe is starting work with its first customer in Spain [for the UK division]. In fact, things seem to be going well for Energy One Europe as it has already signed more than 25 new logos to date this calendar year and there is still a quarter left, Simon told me. In particular, “The eZ-nergy/Egssis side sees a couple of deals a month every month.”
Simon describes the pipeline as good and strong and including quite a few larger opportunities. Meanwhile, it has lots of work on the ETRM side of things with existing customers as well as with new implementations. He also is seeing interest and action with the existing customers asking to move from on premises installations to in the cloud versions of its software. “There is increasing trust and acceptance of cloud,” he said. He sees the volatility helping to create opportunity and says that it has even signed up a few retailers recently as well.
An area that Energy One is promoting post its acquisition of CQ Energy in Adelaide is weather derivatives, Simon told me. As a part of a webinar series it is offering, one will focus on weather derivatives and its capabilities in that area. Meanwhile, the rebranding exercise is going very well though Simon is travelling a lot between Birmingham, France, and Belgium as a part of that process. Internal systems are now shared, he told me and secondments between different parts of the group are helping spread knowledge around as well. Work is going on in terms of security with ISO27001 and related certification as well as it works towards offering ‘follow the sun’ services.
