Energy One Europe welcomes Bibek Agarwal as new product owner focused on algo-trading and exchanges

Energy One is delighted to welcome a new Product Owner to the gas and power nomination, scheduling and balancing team in France and Belgium. Bibek Agarwal will work alongside Head of Product Thomas van Buggenhout and will focus on short-term power trading and exchanges. This means he will work closely with our clients to improve our algo-trading and auction bidding modules.

Bibek’s background

Bibek has a background in Mechanical Engineering, specialising in power plants. After his studies, he started working for Emerson Automation Solutions on virtual power plants. After almost six years, he switched to ABB, where his main role was energy optimisation and creating Virtual Power Plants for clients for close to five years.

After a decade of experience in the energy sector, Bibek did an MBA at ESCP Business School in Paris. He then joined Volue as a Customer Operations Manager, consulting and training customers in automation of short-term trading processes and algo-trading. At Volue, Bibek also contributed to conducted knowledge-sharing webinars and suggested improvements to help scale the team. Part of his role also involved upselling/cross selling additional algo-trading products to the clients based on the clients’ use cases.

Bibek’s role

Bibek will focus on our eZ-Ops SaaS platform – more specifically on functionality for short-term power trading. This means he will be working on taking our auction bidding and algo-trading modules to the next level. He will also focus on connectivity with exchanges. By embracing continuous improvement and applying his experience, he will be able to serve our clients even better.

Here’s what Bibek says about this:
While I was going through the solutions that Energy One currently has in place for algo-trading, I could clearly see it is already in a mature state that is being used in the market. While there is a solid foundation in place, I do have some ideas of how to improve the product and add features to it, without impacting the current user interface or cannibalising our customer base.

In short, I want to add more value to the solutions, so that our clients can optimise their return, and in turn this will increase usage of the algo-trading and auction bidding modules. My ambition is to make sure that we become market leaders through continuous improvement and by adding new features that make our clients more successful.”

Our Head of Product, Thomas, looks forward as well:

eZ-Ops originally started as a Nominations and Balancing solution. As the application matured, it was time to bring more value to our application by adding the algo-trading and auction bidding modules. Yet again it is time to level up, because we feel that we should start covering advanced trading strategies next to the ones we already have. To make this happen, we need experienced people who dare to challenge the status quo. I passionately believe that Bibek possesses all the skills needed to bring us to that next level. I am looking forward to working with and learning from him.”

Energy One recently closed its biggest software deal in Europe for gas and power nominations and algo-trading, with up to 15 additional power exchanges scheduled to go live over the coming years. Bibek and the team will be instrumental in ensuring a smooth roll-out of this project, which you can read about here: https://www.energyone.com/energy-one-closes-deal-increasing-coverage-in-cee-the-baltics-and-southern-europe/
